On Friday 09th June 2023, at Lemigo Hotel, Rwanda Energy Group (REG) held a meeting with corporate customers to discuss any challenges they face and get feedback on the quality of service offered by the group as well as achievements and ongoing projects to ensure effectiveness of energy supply.
While addressing participants during the meeting, the Chief Executive Officer of REG, Ron Weiss said that REG values customer interaction to ensure success of the group’s business.
“We continue to see a varied performance across REG with generally good performance from power system stability and customers service delivery remains our ultimate target “ he added.
Talking about REG achievements in energy development and utility, the group CEO said that big improvements were made in ensuring reliability of power supply, showing that from 2015, blackouts per year were reduced from above 30 to zero in 2022.
Among the measures implemented to ensure power stability include the rehabilitation and construction of new distribution and transmission substations while existing ones were upgraded to fit the demand.
The CEO of REG also mentioned upcoming projects to increase Rwanda’s power generation capacity and reduce the cost of power production. The most imminent ready include Shema Power Lake Kivu project which already started generating the first batch of 18 MW and Rusumo Hydropower plant which is complete and now undergoing tests.
The Minister of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure, Hon. Patricie UWASE, who officiated the meeting, commended discussions held and promised continued efforts to ensure good service.
“The Government will continue to make all necessary investments to make sure that you have the best service you can get. We are going to continue to engage you and we believe that we’ve been able to give you a snapshot of what we’re doing to make sure that you get the best service that you deserve” she added.
